Advantages Of Travelling By Rail Instead Of By F1 Car

- Trains are cheaper. I can go 400 miles by train for £14 (provided it's to London and back and I get the tickets a week in advance). An F1 car costs about £140000 to do the same distance, not including servicing labour.

- If it rains, the driver won't complain about the possibility of spinning.

- Attempting to eat a giant messy sandwich does not result in 300 million people laughing at you spill food everywhere. Just the bloke opposite the table from you.

- You can pick your own choice of music, rather than the default a capella setting of a solo vocalist shouting "Setting T4", "oil bomb" and "Hurry up".

- When it's time to eat, you can grab a chocolate bar without worrying whether you'll be able to get into your chosen mode of transport next day.

- Doughnuts before champagne does not result in a €10000 fine. Only a strange look from the catering assistant due to your odd notions of culinary combinations.

- Trains never get perched on sleeping policemen, kerbs or other routeside furniture. (The downside is that the crashes they do tend to be more serious).

- No groundhog has ever stopped a train from reaching its destination on time.

- You can admire the view.

- You can bring friends.
