FIA

Esperanza y Paciencia

I really don't feel like blogging properly today, so I'll summarise:

Good luck to Karun Chandhok in the tests he will do for Lotus. He was very popular, level-headed and quick for Hispania last year and if F1 weren't in a recession, he'd probably have got a race seat in 2011 on merit.

Good to see the FIA Institute starting its scheme to train drivers for both racing and road safety leadership roles independent of manufacturers and wealthy sponsors - today it began the two-day test to determine which of the promising candidates on the shortlist should be offered this pioneering opportunity.

But most of all, best wishes to Robert Kubica, who faces a lengthy and difficult recovery after sustaining multiple fractures to his right leg, arm and hand. He crashed into a wall towards the start of the Ronde di Andora Rally, was briefly unconscious and had lengthy surgery concentrating on the seriously-injured hand. He is currently under the care of at least two well-regarded medical experts: racing medicine specialist Dr Riccardo Ceccarelli and world-renowned hand specialist Prof Igor Rossello. Everyone in the motorsports community is hoping Robert's famed determination and resilience help him in making a speedy and complete recovery. The general worrying about Robert all day, with little in the way of distraction, has made me not really want to blog today, hence why this summary consists mostly of links to more eloquent writers and speakers.

Esperanza y paciencia - that's all we can do. Hope for the best and wait for Robert to recover.
